2016 Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission Recognition Awards: Outstanding Contribution as a friend in Catholic Schools

Sandra Siebert’s years of dedicated service to the Star of the Sea Catholic College at George Town has been recognised.

She said she was surprised to hear that she was a recipient of a 2016 Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission Recognition Awards for her outstanding contribution as a friend in Catholic schools.

Mrs Siebert, 59, of Low Head, has worked in the College’s canteen for 20 years and in the uniform shop for ten.

But her links to the College go back further.

Mrs Siebert was herself a student at the College from 1962 to 1972; then a parent of three students; and finally on the staff.

Mrs Siebert said she enjoyed her work.

“I love the canteen and that is why I am still here,” she said.

“I like the interaction with the children and with the staff too.

“Things have changed over the years but it is a good school. We are one big family. We all care about each other and get on well with everyone.”

In her spare time, Mrs Siebert enjoys baking, crocheting and collecting beach glass – coloured glass shards broken by the tide that she then puts on display.
