2016 Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission Recognition Awards: Outstanding Contribution as a Friend in Catholic Schools

School volunteer, Margaret Young was acknowledged at the Tasmanian Catholic Education Commission Awards for her outstanding contribution as a friend of a Catholic School.

Since retiring from her professional work as an Occupational Therapist, Mrs Young has continued to make a positive contribution to the community through her voluntary work.

During the past five years she has volunteered at John Paul II Catholic School, Rokeby once a week.

On her ‘school days’ Mrs Young works one-on-one or in small groups assisting Prep and Grade 1 children with their literacy, numeracy and fine/gross motor skills.

Over the years Mrs Young has won the admiration of students, parents and staff alike for her ability to treat every child with respect and dignity, while working with students to create a positive team environment.

John Paul II Catholic School Acting Principal, Fran Bearman accepted the award on Mrs Young’s behalf. She is currently travelling overseas.
